Spirit Level

As a person who enjoys making Do-It-Yourself projects, the spirit level has become a common and important object in my daily life. The simple design of it makes it easy to use and easy to store.

Spirit level made of plastic with a magnetic side

A spirit level is a tool used to show how parallel or perpendicular a surface is. The vials in a spirit level are filled with a mineral spirit solution with additives for UV protection, leaving just enough room for a bubble to form. These vials will have center marks which will show the user how to level the surface depending on the position of the bubble.

I normally use the spirit level that is shown in the image above. It is a Torpedo Level, which is good for using in tight spaces as it is just a a bit bigger than the pocket size spirit levels. It is made of plastic so it is not heavy to carry, non-conductive and non-corrosive. It has three vials, perpendicular, parallel, and 45 degrees, making it perfect for simple projects like making a table to more complex projects such as plumbery and electrical projects. The design of this spirit level includes a magnetic working edge for hands-free use on metal surfaces and a v-groove frame to fit on pipes.

There are different styles of spirit levels, for example, box beam levels, line levels, and i-beam levels, with some variations in the design, such as shape, size, extra features, but all of them have the same main functionality which is helping to get a perfect job done.

The design of this tool is so simple that it can be reduced to the size of a keychain and still being useful, as long as the bubble is working and the center marks are easily visible.
