My major project will be a website focused on Latino local companies. Users will have the opportunity to know about these businesses, encouraging them to visit these places and be involved in the Latin American community.
My website will include businesses, geographically located in London, from different sectors including restaurants, fashion (clothes stores and dressmakers), beauty (hairdressers and skin clinics), health, and other services (money transfer and currency exchange). It will also include a blog where I will post stories and marketing tips to promote a business.
My aim will be two companies per sector and at least four blog posts. Also, I was thinking of adding an events page but that will depend on how smooth the development of this website is going.
Some of the challenges I will probably face would be:
– To collect all the information needed for the website on time as I would like to have at least 15 businesses.
– To find a balance in the design and the information, so people outside the Latin American community can find it interesting too, which is my aim, to make everyone feel welcome to the Latin American community.
– To take great photographs of the businesses and their team members (if they agree) so the users can feel more motivated to visit these places.
The outcome I would like to get from this project is to promote the Latin American community through the services they offer to the residents. Therefore, people would be more involved in the community and support local Latin American businesses.
I would like to keep working on this project even after the Master’s finished as I think this is a good way to help my community and local businesses to keep growing. And who knows? maybe at some point, it won’t be me looking for companies to promote but companies looking for me to be promoted.
Feedback from the presentation
After presenting my final major project idea I received positive feedback from my classmates and my professors. They told me things to keep in mind such as to think carefully about my content so the commercial approach is avoided as we want the community to be the main focus.
Also, it is a good idea to combine my photography skills with the project as it is the perfect moment to experiment and get the most out of it.
What’s next? to talk about the kind of business my website would be and the cultural context it would have.
